API Family Pride's first annual "Family Presentation Party" is a way of acknowledging the difficult process that our families have undergone to overcome homophobia and understand and accept
us as we are.  This is a time to commend the private, personal struggles of love and transformation in our individual families with public acknowledgement from us, their children and a grateful community.

This is a sit-down luncheon with "Family Honor Roll" to acknowledge the support of our parents and siblings, celebrate our "new" families, and honor those organizations and individuals whose visibility has inspired  courage, respect and acceptance of sexual and gender diversity in our community.  Also, there will be family entertainment involving the children of API LGBT people (some of the kids are old enough now to "perform.")

  • "Love, Your Homegirl" & the reception
co-presented by APIQWTC & Frameline 28: SF Int'l Lesbian & Gay Film Festival

    Saturday, June 19
    3:15pm
    Herbst Theatre
    401 Van Ness Avenue
    San Francisco, CA

APIQWTC is pleased to co-present this screening in the upcoming Frameline28: SF Int'l Lesbian & Gay Film Festival. Q&A Panel and Reception immediately after the screening.

Emerging Bay Area mediamakers serve up fresh reflections of love, homegirl style, in a shorts program that dishes and dices the perspectives of queer women of color with a tasty twist. It’s a feisty buffet of stories about desire, love and community.

SKATE HER, a rebel yell to dominant skateboarding culture, rocks to the joy of a skateboarding addiction. A JOURNEY HOME poetically depicts home, community, and immigration for three queer Latina women in San Francisco. MILA’S WILL: SNAPSHOT OF A FRISCO NATIVE takes a journey between reality and memory through the eyes of a queer girl graffiti artist. REFLECTIONS visually contrasts the different paths that each of us might choose. DRAGON DESIRE is a tale about why the Chinese dragon desires the celestial pearl. LOVE IN CHAOS juxtaposes the definition of perfect love with one couple’s attempt at loving. TROO BLOO is an API queer girl love story that unravels to the beat of 80s pop music and the sweetness of bubble tea.

All works were created through the Queer Women of Color Media Arts Project (QWOCMAP) digital video workshops, conducted by award-winning filmmaker Madeleine Lim. QWOCMAP promotes the creation and exhibition of films and videos that reflect the experiences, stories, and lives of queer women of color.

Filmmakers will be present for a Q&A panel after the screening. Program curated by Madeleine Lim.

Admission to reception after film is FREE. Refreshments will be served. The venue is wheelchair accessible. For more info about FRAMELINE28, please go to www.frameline.org/festival

  • Summer of Love 2004: A Celebration of Same-Sex Marriage

    by
Asian & Allies Rally for Marriage Equality

    Sunday, August 8
    11:30am - 1:30pm
    Larsen Park
19 Ave. between Wawona & Ulloa
    San Francisco, CA

Several organizations, such as GAPA, APACE, API Wellness, EQ/MECA, NCLR, and APIQWTC, are sponsoring a large same-sex marriage rally to give a voice and face to the Asian LGBT community.

Please come and join Mabel Teng and other notable speakers for a rally on August 8 and come help support civil rights for all. We need all the support we can get.

There are two anti-same sex rallies already in the works (San Jose and Washington DC) by the same people who orchestrated the 7,000 Christian Asian protest against same-sex marriage back in April, 2004 staged in the Sunset District. We need to let people know that not all Asians are this bigoted!

We still need VOLUNTEERS to make this rally a success and to show that the API Women and Trans community is willing to do our part in the fight for EQUAL RIGHTS! Please consider dedicating some time to a cause that effects all of us and future generations to come.

Climb Against the Odds, Mt. Shasta 2004

Climbing Mt. Shasta and preventing the environmental links to breast cancer is within our reach. The Breast Cancer Fund's fifth major mountain climb expedition, Climb Against the Odds - Mt. Shasta 2004, will be held July 5 - 11, 2004.

And, our very own Pam Low is climbing it! Please support this deserving organization, The Breast Cancer Fund, and your donation is fully tax-deductible for a very good cause. You may donate online or check out Pam's personal message at www.gogirl.chariteam.com.

Climb Against the Odds - Mt. Shasta 2004 will represent a team of climbers working together to reach the summit and help prevent breast cancer. This highly visible expedition will raise awareness and funding to support The Breast Cancer Fund's mission to identify -- and advocate for elimination of -- the environmental and other preventable causes of the disease. This inspirational team will strive to raise $500,000 over the next 9 months along with training for their mountaineering expidition.

The team follows in the tradition of The Breast Cancer Fund's past expeditions: Mt. Aconcagua, Argentina in 1995; Alaska's Mt. McKinley in 1998; Mt Fuji, Japan in 2000; and Mt. Shasta, California in 2003. Each climb not only proved each climber's determination to fight breast cancer, but also brought worldwide attention to the breast cancer epidemic. Through these climbs and related projects, The Breast Cancer Fund has raised over $3 million in support of our work to end breast cancer. Prevention Starts Here.

Riding Caravan on October 4, 2004

Dear Friends,

As you may know, Jennifer and I are going on the Marriage Equality Caravan for 8 days, beginning October 4, 2004, which takes us through America's heartland and ending in Washington D.C.  We are both excited and honored to represent the Asian GLBT community, however; it comes with a cost to me. Since I am a self employed Massage Therapist, I will lose personal income by participating in this 8 day tour.

I am personally asking for your support by purchasing a massage certificate from me in the amount of $65.00 for a 75 minute massage or $80.00 for a 90 minute massage.  I will honor all certificates after I return from the caravan trip and there is no expiration date.  I am hoping to raise $1,000 to cover lost income and any unforseen expenses associated with the caravan trip.   I really appreciate your support in this matter.
