Chu on dis
We are a multi-generational trio spread across 3 different decades, brought together by their Japanese roots. Chu is an icon in the LGBT community in Tokyo known for founding the popular “Chestnut & Squirrel” bar in Shibuya, performing original songs on guitar, and inspiring younger LGBT generations to live out their dreams. Ako plays Irish music on her violin, something she engaged in during her study abroad program in Ireland when she was in high school, and she is also known for having served as a core member in the Gaygler community in Japan. Momo, a California girl through-and-through, is increasingly grateful that she was brought up speaking Japanese at home, and enjoys being a jack of all trades but a master of none by playing oboe, saxophone, occasionally tuba, and sometimes singing jazz vocals.
Anjali Rimi
Anjali Rimi is a human that has transcended the intersectional existence of being transgender, immigrant, South Asian and a rape survivor. She strives to be visible in a safe space albeit vulnerable. Anjali requests the world to accept Trans identities as equals and capable individuals of holding jobs, degrees, relationships and a dignified life. Accept, stand and include them.
kapwa the band
kapwa the band met at a UC Berkeley Pilipinx Christian group in 2015. The members share a commitment to finding the connections between their identities around faith, queerness and ethnic identity, and social justice. Drawing inspiration from gospel, soul, and hip hop, they use music as a creative expression to celebrate the fullness of who they are. And, most of all, they have hella fun doing it.
