The entire screening program will be live-streamed online, and we’ll have a live, interactive filmmaker Q&A at the end of the screening. This event will not be recorded, so be sure to join us promptly at 7 pm!
As our founding Artistic/Executive Director Madeleine Lim says, “If you have ten films from queer Pacific Islander and Asian filmmakers, no one can ever say that we’re all the same.”
This has been one of QWOCMAP’s guiding truths for 20 years, as we nurture queer and transgender filmmakers of color to create films that share our lived truths. With 452 films created in our Filmmaker Training Program, we are shattering stereotypes and biases about our communities.
QWOCMAP’s Queer Pacific Islander & Asian Film Screening honors an abundance of beautiful and spectacularly human stories, from sweet dinner dates to healing rituals to interviews with trans bisexual elders. We are delighted to feature Ka Mana O Ke Ola by Native Hawaiian filmmaker Megan Kaleipumehana Cabral! In this beautiful short film pictured above, a young woman mourns and finds life by sailing a letter to her father.
Access Note: Half of the films have open captions for the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing. The other half of the films are from the QWOCMAP vault and do not have open captions.
Also, SAVE THE DATE!!!
