In a small town in the Philippines,12-year-old Anita, a smart-mouthed tomboy, becomes infatuated with Pilar, a beautiful and intriguing adult woman. Ever the little butch-in-training, Anita sports her crush around town, as an oblivious Pilar tries to outrun her painful past. Once Anita discovers Pilar’s connection with Anita’s cousin Oscar and the details of Pilar’s past, the young girl’s first crush is replaced by her very first broken heart.
